Re: I am writing to report a likely violation of the Brooklyn Navy Yard's commercial use policies. Jim Munson, the owner of Brooklyn Roasting Company operating within the Navy Yard, is illegally residing inside the facility, at building 123, which is intended for industrial and commercial use only. He has converted significant portions of the premises into a private residence: He occupies approximately half of the first floor, which corresponds to the 2nd floor on the building s elevator. No one is allowed on the 2nd level ever, as this is personal quarters. The top floor is used as his private kitchen. His personal restroom, located near the main entrance, is separate from employee facilities and appears to be designated for his exclusive use. He parks his personal vehicle on-site, utilizing commercial space for residential convenience. Additionally, he keeps a pet cat inside the building, further confirming that the space is being used as a private dwelling. This type of residential use directly conflicts with the Brooklyn Navy Yard's leasing rules and raises serious concerns regarding zoning violations, misuse of city-owned property, and potential safety or liability issues for employees. I respectfully urge your office to conduct an investigation. I am happy to provide further context if necessary but request anonymity due to concerns about retaliation. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. |
