| Re: Re: I was looking for an apartment or room to rent. Manager of this building made an appointment to meet first time at 610 W 142nd St., New York, New York 10031, second time at 610 W140nd St., New York, New York 10031, and she never showed up. All my research and past complaints were in vain. I figured that she did not like my appearance. Third time I had a friend join me and we met on Broadway. When she saw nice women, she approached and then I joined them. She showed us two units in the basement, 60 and 61 and 6th floor apartment 6H. Tenants are renting units and the dog would not leave there. Tenant is subletting from the super, basement apartments are supers apartments, and super does not own the property. Manager works with tenants in the other apartments and I believe the apartments are rent-stabilized and the person is renting for more than the monthly rent to use as if an investment property. The owners of the building nor the city are aware of the short-term rental in that unit. I have been recording the AirBnb openings for many units over the last few months. Many are fully booked all the way to the end of the year. Before AirBnb, the units were rented for cash on a daily basis for former AirBnb guests. I highly doubt the basement unit is approved by DOB either. I will be happy to provide more information if needed. In a city where most are struggling to find a place to sleep, such opportunistic behaviors should not be tolerated. Building manager benefits of the illegal rentals on the property and not just at Apt. 60, 1 and 6H. While many New York residents are struggling to find an apartment, they rent illegally. I believe they are renting under the table without the knowledge of the property owners or the city to then turn around and profit of it. Why should a building receiving tax incentives from the city be USED FOR ILLEGAL RENTALS? |
